Free and Easy Wanderer- Xiao Yao San
By far one of the most popular formulas
used in our shop, the name Free and Easy Wanderer describes the
concept of Qi and how it should ideally circulate and flow freely in
the body fostering mental and spiritual openness.
Free and Easy Wanderer works on the
Spleen and Liver systems. Habitual stress and emotional factors
cause the free flow of Liver Qi on our bodies to stagnate and become
restrained causing symptoms related to anxiety such as oppressive
sensation in the chest (with difficulty getting a full breath),
hypochondria, epigastric, and abdomen, headache, vertigo, chronic
neck and upper back tension, globus hystericus, and frequent sighing.
This restrained Liver Qi can also be a bit of a bully and begin
picking on the Spleen system leading to digestive complaints such as
indigestion, abdominal pain, IBS, gastritis, ulcers, billiary spasm,
diarrhoea, loose stools, and reduced appetite.
Key functions of the Liver and Spleen
systems are to control the flow of blood, manufacture blood and are
thus in control of its quantity in the body. For this reason, Free
and Easy Wanderer is used most often for menstrual irregularities
with an emotional component. It is able to treat a broad range of
gynaecological disorders such as amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, PMS, and
breast distention.
The Hun or Ethereal Soul
corresponds to the Liver system. The Ethereal Soul is very similar
to the western concept of the soul. It is that in the body which
gives it both life and purpose. Without it we would lose direction
and be empty. The Ethereal Soul is important because it leaves the
body to join the spirits and Qi of nature. The Ethereal Soul gives us
guidance and a sense of purpose. When the Liver Blood is deficient it
cannot root the Ethereal Soul and thus we lose direction in life. A
sensation of fear or of floating prior to sleep can indicate this.
Free and Easy Wanderer nourishes Liver Blood and is effective in
treating many emotional/spiritual/psychological conditions related to
the Ethereal Soul.
